Sojourn has a song for the wait.

In a time where it seems as though God is deliberately waiting to respond to the crises in our world, we are left to either draw near or to migrate away from His presence.

Our spiritual ancestors had songs about this tension; between fidelity to God and fear of being destroyed as God’s people. One biblical writer even mourns through song: “How can we sing the LORD’s song on foreign soil?" (Psalm 137:4) This was a fair question since the artist sang from the oppressive state of Babylon—waiting for God to respond.

Today, we can sing a hopeful lament about our only hope in the wait from generation to generation: King Jesus. He promised, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.” Because His death secured this reality for all who believe in Him, we can lament and find hope in this promise.

After months of collaboration between musicians, vocalists, and creatives from the Sojourn churches of Louisville, KY, we offer "The Meek Will Own the Earth" as we wait together. This song is for the sick, the tired single parent, the emotionally distressed; the immigrant, and the oppressed by society. In Jesus, we will own the earth in due season.
